Wound Management for Lymphedema

This course teaches practicing lymphedema therapists the knowledge and skills necessary to manage lymphedema-associated wounds as part of their Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) treatment plan. A thorough review of the pathophysiology of wounds and the impact of edema on chronic wounds, specifically wounds resulting from chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), is provided.

Students are taught to utilize lab and vascular tests to assess wound status, determine etiology and make decisions regarding referral to other specialists. In addition, this course demonstrates debridement and explains adjunctive therapies to assist in wound healing. Selecting appropriate topicals and wound dressings to maintain a moist wound environment is also covered.
