Yes. Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists can bill for reimbursement by using standard CPT codes as appropriate for the services rendered. Nurses and Massage Therapists are usually precluded from using CPT (billing) codes and receiving reimbursement. However, some private insurance companies may make an exception.

Physical Therapy Assistants and Occupational Therapy Assistants are able to work as Certified Lymphedema Therapists even if their supervising Physical Therapist/Occupational Therapist is not certified. The same rules between PT/PTA and OT/OTA apply, meaning that the PT or OT will conduct the evaluation, set the plan of treatment and conduct the discharge but the Certified PTA or OTA will carry out the treatment plan on the patient. The assistants should be present at the time of evaluation and give guidance since they have the knowledge and skill.
